　　Today we are gathered together to start a new school year. First of all, let's welcome the new students with the warmest applause, and welcome all students back to the beautiful campus!

　　We hold the opening ceremony to give the new school year a ritualistic start, to give everyone a new beginning, a new hope. From the smiles on your faces, I can see the excitement, happiness and anticipation in your hearts. This year, our theme for the beginning of the school year is an abundant and prosperous opening day. This is also my wish for all of you: I hope that the new school year will be a year of abundance and prosperity for each of us.

　　So, how can we do it? Today I want to talk about it from our school’s name - Tsinglan.

　　The "Tsing" in Tsinglan is taken from Tsinghua University, which I'm sure you all know. What about "Lan"? In fact, the word "Lan" is taken from Zhaolan Yuan, which is a place where Tsinghua University masters gathered in the 1900s. The Qichao Building, the Guowei Building, and the John Ma Sports Center on our campus are all named after the masters who lived in the Zhaolan Yuan. That's why we are called Tsinglan, meaning that our school is a place where elites and masters from all walks of life are trained. Dear students, after listening to my speech, do you feel the heavy expectations of the school for you?

　　As the saying goes, " A mountain’s fame does not lie in how high it is, but in the immortals living inside." It is these masters that give Tsinghua University its dynamic life. For all the students here, it is the same. It is because of you that Tsinglan becomes alive. In the new school year, as the principal, I will lead all the students and faculty to open a new chapter in the development of the school, and my goal is to "define the school focus and strengthen the academics." I look forward to seeing all of you on this campus with the motto of “try and all is possible”, to uphold the spirit of Tsinghua's pursuit of excellence, and to become a virtuous and self-reliant scholar, a liberal gentleman.

　　The liberal gentleman that Tsinghua emphasizes is based on the following aspects: cultivation rooted in the heart, self-awareness without reminders, freedom with restraint and kindness for the sake of others. Each of these is not so simple and not so easy to achieve when you think about it. The so-called liberal arts is the development of the whole person by realizing the potential of the mind under a comprehensive and integrated education system. For each person, to put it in a smaller way, it is to achieve a state of abundant and flourishing life.

　　Just like the smiles on everyone's faces, it is natural to think that happy emotions are the core connotation of happiness. However, happiness is fleeting, and it is difficult to create a sustained happy life if we only emphasize the subjective feeling of happiness. Therefore, we need to distinguish very wisely between two types of happiness, one called happiness and the other called well-being. Happiness that emphasizes life satisfaction can only be called happiness, which focuses on positive emotions, while well-being, which describes a flourishing state of life, is the true happiness.

　　To achieve a flourishing life, one must have enough "PERMA". These 5 letters represent the 5 key elements of a flourishing life.

　　I hope that you will maintain a positive mood and that you will not only actively engage in the process of learning in a loving community environment at Tsinglan school to improve your abilities in all areas, but also learn to care for yourself and achieve a positive and healthy mental state so that you can be 100% committed to your studies, improve your academic performances and plow deeper in your field. We believe that you will keep old friends and make new friends and gain harmonious interpersonal relationships and appreciate the meaning of life.

　　So what is the hardest part? It is the last point: Accomplishment. Accomplishment means being able to continuously achieve self-refinement and self-breakthrough in certain areas of knowledge or skills. Perseverance, self-confidence, and habits of mind all contribute to achievement. These are the "harder road", but you will see a more beautiful scenery. The essence of Tsinghua spirit is the pursuit of excellence. I believe that every student of Tsinghua will be able to run forward on the harder road of pursuing excellence and transform into a happier and happier self.

　　So to put it into action, this academic year I want you all to think about what your core plan is.

　　The essence of planning lies in taking abstract, strategic-level thinking and making it concrete step by step into small, specific and manageable short-term goals, which can then be further broken down into daily actionable tasks.

　　The Talent Investment Plan launched last year at Tsinglan School has shown me the perseverance of every Tsinglan student whose actions speak louder than words. This year we will also launch the Talent Investment Plan again.

　　I think that every teacher at Tsinglan School is a lifelong learner, constantly educating themselves to achieve a fuller and more prosperous life.
